My Background

I think it was my love for the spectrum 48K that acted as the catalyst for my IT career. Playing computer games and curious as to how things really worked made computers a integral part of my every day life.

I realized the vastness of opportunities in the IT industry having read Computer Science at university and opted to pursue a career in IT at LogicaCMG.

I started out as a developer on the European Space Agency’s Xray Multi Mirror Mission (XMM-Newton) and have worked on numerous Space and Telecommunications projects over the passed 8 years. During this time I have worked my way up to project management level which I enjoy thoroughly.

My Job

I am currently a Development Manager for the LogicaCMG Telecommunications O2 project. My everyday activities include team/client management, project planning/ tracking, budget management, meetings, and much much more…

It’s a fast evolving dynamic environment that one needs to keep on top of at all times. Stress levels change day to day depending on the issues that arise, but this is what makes work exciting.

My work environment and training

The work environment is exceptional. I believe LogicaCMG has a unique working atmosphere; things are pretty flexible and chilled-out with everybody on friendly terms. It is this environment that helps to get the job accomplished and therefore win repeat business.

The most effective training is what you learn on the job, however there are numerous training programmes relating to the career path one wishes to follow, be it technical or managerial. The opportunity is there and I have sought to make as extensive use of the managerial courses as possible, however it is not always possible to attend courses due to project requirements.

My most unforgettable moment

The launch of ESA’s XMM satellite; it’s amazing to think my work will be out there in space for a very long time to come… It feels like I have done something that will truly benefit humanity.

Best Bits

Knowing you have succeeded in delivering a project!

Worst Bits

The battle against stress that comes with responsibility! One learns to win these battles with time.
