My Background
After graduating from TED Ankara College and obtaining my Chemistry degree from Middle East Technical University, I started working for an IT company as a sales person.
To change my career direction, I decided to do an MBA at the University of Brighton after which I returned to Turkey and started working as an analyst for Demir-Halk Bank in Turkey.
After 2 months of my employment with Demirbank, we experienced a takeover by the government in the 2000 Crisis. I was sent to our head office in Ankara and then to a representative office in Istanbul where there I was working as a financial analyst of our loan customers. In June 2003, I was offered a transfer to our London branch.
After 14 months in London, the management of DHB decided to close the London branch. After an intense period of job hunting, I found a role at JPMorgan Chase in Bournemouth as an Equity Derivatives Legal Documentation Specialist.
My Job
At the operations campus in Bournemouth there are approximately 4500 people working, and in our floor we are around 200-250 people.
My usual day starts at half-seven in the morning, where I go through the queries that have been raised by the Affirmations Team the day before. My job consists of comparing the Swap Deal tickets, which have been booked by Middle Office with the system producing confirmations that are to be sent out to counter-parties. I look for any discrepancies between the bookings and the outgoing legal confirmations. If there are any amendments to be made, it is my responsibility to make them and match the confirmation to the most recent deal ticket.
We do not have too much stress in our job, but there is always too much work to be done, so I spend 11 hours at work almost everyday.
My Work Environment and Training
JPMC really value their employees and provide us with many training opportunities within the bank. For example,in my second week after joining the bank I received a three full days of training on derivative products, which was compulsory for new starters. There is always a course going on within the bank and there are opportunities for everyone to get the training courses they want. In fact all JPMorgan employees have to receive at least 40 hours of training every year on their own choices.
Worst Bits
It might get monotonous sometimes. And I do not get many chances to meet our clients, our marketers and traders.
Best Bits
Best part of my job is, although I am working for a big Investment bank, there is not much stress involved in my job. And it is always up to me to bring down the work load and keep our statistics at low figures. It all depends on my hardworking.
